The Definitive Guide to EV Charging

There are Levels to This
Ever since the first car was produced in 1886, internal combustion engines have been the driving force of vehicles. However, the search for an alternative has been underway for just as long and finally, we have an answer. Electric vehicles with electric motors.
Now, when most folks think of electric vehicles they imagine some futuristic-looking vehicle that will leave them stranded on the side of the highway with dead batteries — this couldn’t be more of a myth!
Electric vehicles, or EVs, have come a long way since the 1870s. They’re stylish, powerful, exciting to drive and most of all — reliable. Despite advances in EV technology, many people still doubt their practicality and cite range anxiety and lack of charging infrastructure.
This definitive guide to EV charging will teach you everything you need to know about EV charging, including how simple it is. Give this a quick read and then make sure to pay a visit to Jennings Chevrolet to check out the electrifying Bolt EV.
Level 1 Charging
The most accessible level of charging, Level 1 charging stations allow you to charge your EV by plugging it into your household 120V outlet. This means you’ll be able to use your vehicle’s charger on any outlet in your residence, making charging a breeze.
Commonly referred to as “trickle charging”, level 1 is the slowest charging method available for EVs albeit one of the most convenient. You will see around four miles of range added to the vehicle each hour when using level 1 charging.
With a slow charging time, Level 1 is best utilized when you’re able to let your EV charge up overnight. That being said, there are a few other methods of charging that are faster if you’re in a rush, keep reading to find out what they are.
Level 2 Charging
One of the most common forms of EV charging, Level 2 charging can be found in both residential and public areas. It provides a much quicker charge than Level 1 chargers, adding up to 12-30 miles of range per hour. A full charge can be completed in 6-12 hours — depending on battery size — when using a Level 2 charger.
If you want a Level 2 charger at your home, it is plenty doable as long as you have an available 240V outlet. In the event you don’t have a 240V outlet, you must have one professionally installed before you are able to take advantage of Level 2 charging.
While most electric vehicles come with a Level 1 charging cable included, Level 2 chargers come at an extra cost. Simply ask your sales professional for pricing on a Level 2 charging cable and they should be able to provide you with one at delivery.
Looking to have a Level 2 charger installed at your house? Companies like ChargePoint and QMerit can help! Having a Level 2 charger installed at home will not only save you time but some money as well. In some cases, you may even be able to claim tax benefits for owning an EV and investing in a charger, refer to your local tax code for more info.
Level 3 Charging
Often referred to as DC Fast Charging, high-powered Level 3 chargers are only found at public charging stations across the country. They are the fastest and most-efficient way to charge your EV, as they add around 3-15 miles every minute!
Level 3 charging uses powerful direct current (DC) power, which is not found in residential areas as they use alternating current (AC). This means you won’t be able to have a Level 3 charging station at home, but if you do some Googling you may find one nearby.
The best benefit of Level 3 charging stations is their ability to charge your EV battery up to 80% capacity in a matter of minutes. This makes charging up during lunch break or while running errands a breeze and allows you to live a range-anxiety-free life.
As the popularity of EV’s continues to grow, you’ll start to see more and more Level 3 public charging stations popping up across the country. If you already own an EV, chances are you know all of your local charging stations — but if you don’t — check out Plugshare.

Rising Prices, Dwindling Inventory
As the world slowly returns to form after the COVID-19 Pandemic, the global supply chain is struggling to keep up after such a long period of disruption. Back in 2020, with the world at the height of the pandemic, factories all over the world shut down to stop the spread, while subsequently stopping the production of goods.
During the global shutdown, inventory began to pile up on dealership lots all throughout the United States. With each passing day, the cost of insurance and interest on this sitting inventory totaled in the hundreds of thousands, causing dealership owners a slight panic. This time of uncertainty and panic was not here to stay long, as a bigger problem awaited dealership owners in the near future.
Fast forward a year to 2021, dealerships throughout the U.S. are struggling to keep up with demand for inventory as manufacturers struggle to produce new vehicles. This struggle is largely due to a semiconductor shortage that was sparked by the worldwide lockdowns that took place during the pandemic. With factories shut down and semiconductors not being made, new vehicles ceased to be produced and vehicle manufacturers found themselves struggling to fulfill dealership orders.
In response to the growing supply chain issue, dealerships began to turn their focus toward to used vehicle market, encouraging customers to sell their used vehicles or complete trade-ins. With used vehicles more desirable than ever and equipped government-backed stimulus checks, consumers throughout the United States flocked to dealerships to trade in their old vehicles in favor of new ones.
The rush by dealerships to find ways to supplement the shortage of new vehicles only further exacerbated that shortage, leaving dealerships in a pickle. Now dealerships have droves of customers clamoring to trade-in their vehicles, with no new vehicles to sell those customers, resulting in long waiting lists and disgruntled customers.
With this shortage, you may be wondering if now is the right time to start the search for a vehicle. The answer here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC is a resounding, YES! Despite the supply chain issues and a shortage of new vehicles, there has never been a better time to trade in your old vehicle in favor of purchasing a new one. Keep reading to find out why!
The Time Is Now
If you’re wondering if it’s a smart idea to buy a car in 2022, the answer is YES! Now, you may be doubting that because of what you just read above…but fear not! There truly has never been a better time to buy a new car, truck or SUV — and here are some reasons why.
Interest Rates
One of the biggest reasons you should be buying a car right now is because of the incredibly low-interest rates that are available. Right now, banks are loaning out money at record-setting rates in attempts to reinvigorate the struggling, post-pandemic economy. With rates as low as 0.99% APR available, it’s a no-brainer to buy a new vehicle right now as rates like this aren’t typically available.
If you want the best interest rates on the widest selection of new and pre-owned Chevrolet, Buick or GMC vehicles, stop by Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC located in Chambersburg today!
Your Car Is Worth More Than Ever Before
Yeah, you read that right…your old car is worth more than ever before thanks to the shortage of new inventory. Typically, all cars begin depreciating the moment they leave the dealership lot. However, in this whacky post-pandemic economy, some vehicles have actually gained value as they aged.
As dealerships all over the country make a push to purchase used vehicles and increase trade-ins, the value of used vehicles has increased astronomically. That means there has never been a better time to purchase a new vehicle, as your trade-in is worth more than its ever been. If you’ve been tossing around the idea of buying a new car, you’ll want to act now before the value of your used car plummets back to pre-pandemic prices and you lose out on thousands.
You can get the best value for your used car, truck or SUV at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC located in Chambersburg, PA. At Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, they have the Chambersburg area’s best selection of new and pre-owned Chevrolet, Buick or GMC vehicles, so stop by and check out their inventory today!
Customize Your New Vehicle
Due to the semiconductor shortage, chances are you will be waiting on a new vehicle to be built and shipped to the United States before you buy it. This wait may seem like nothing but a hassle when in reality it is the best thing that could happen. Wondering why it’s the best thing that could happen? Keep reading to find out why!
While it may not seem ideal to buy a car that hasn’t yet been built, there are some advantages to doing so. A car that hasn’t been built yet means you can tailor to fit your exact needs and specifications. That means you can forego features you won’t use and add features you may not have been able to find on a specific trim of that vehicle. With the added flexibility that comes with ordering a new Chevrolet, Buick or GMC vehicle, it truly makes right now better than ever to buy a new vehicle.
Stop by Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC located in Chambersburg to place an order for your new Chevrolet, Buick or GMC vehicle today!
Reasons You Should Avoid Buying a Car in 2022
This blog would not be complete without a good counterargument. So, let’s talk about a few reasons why you may want to avoid buying a new car, truck or SUV in 2022.
Seemingly Endless Waiting Lists
One good reason to avoid purchasing a new or pre-owned vehicle in 2022 is the waiting game. Let’s face it, nobody wants to spend their hard-earned money on a vehicle they have to spend months waiting for. However, the reality of this post-pandemic world is filled with long waiting lists for new vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
If you’re considering purchasing a new car, truck or SUV, make sure to inquire about the average waiting time at your dealership of choice. Another thing to keep in mind is delays do happen, especially with the rampant issues in the global supply chain. That being said, if you place an order for a new vehicle, be prepared to be patient.
Patience is a virtue they say, and if it’s a virtue that escapes you, perhaps its best to look into a pre-owned vehicle instead. If a pre-owned vehicle is something you would consider, Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC has plenty of them to choose from at their Chambersburg location — stop by today!
Record-High Prices
An unfortunate consequence of the vehicle shortage has been the steep rise in the prices of new vehicles. With incredibly high demand and constrained supply lines, the cost of new vehicles is rising to record highs in a staggeringly short amount of time. Many new vehicles are flying off of dealership lots, sometimes for prices above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
Although interest rates are at all-time lows, it still may be wise to refrain from purchasing a new car, truck or SUV in 2022 thanks to the rising cost of new vehicles. If you want to save money and can keep driving your current vehicle, it just may be best to wait out this influx of pricing on new vehicles.
Fewer Options
Yet another drawback to purchasing a new vehicle during this shortage is the lack of available options. Due to the semiconductor shortage, vehicle manufacturers are opting to only produce certain types and trims of vehicles, leaving less variety to choose from. This is being done in an effort to keep profits where they need to be while dealing with a constrained supply of vehicles and parts.
During this shortage, you run the chance of walking onto a dealership lot and not being able to find a vehicle to fit your wants or needs. Many vehicles that are being produced right now are coming loaded with options and features, which increases the cost and makes them less appealing to budget-conscious consumers.
If you’re considering purchasing a new vehicle in these times, keep in mind that you may not get exactly what you want in a vehicle. This can be prevented with a little patience, all you have to do is simply wait out this global semiconductor shortage which should be over soon. Getting the vehicle of your dreams is still possible despite the worldwide shortage of vehicles, so don’t lose hope!
The Answer Is
Now that both sides to the argument have been made, the answer to the question “Is Buying a Car in 2022 Worth It” still remains a resounding yes. This is because the power is still in the hands of the consumer, even with the reduced supply of new and pre-owned vehicles. Consumers are more powerful than ever in the post-pandemic world, and it’s because struggling companies need every dollar they can get. Keep this in mind when shopping for your next vehicle, whether it’s new or pre-owned.

Some may say that the engine is the most important part of your vehicle, but the truth is, it isn’t the engine itself, but what runs through it that is the most important part of your vehicle. Engine oil is the most important part of your vehicle, as it protects vital components of your engine that keep your car running right. Through short trips, weekend joy rides, and long cruises, the oil in your engine heats up and cools off multiple times, and must not degrade during this process as that could cause engine wear and tear, and eventual failure. To keep engine oil from degrading quickly, oil manufacturers turned to synthetic oil blends which degrade at a slower rate and even provide improved protection to the engine. Synthetic oil is far more refined than traditional oil, resulting in less engine friction, reduced sludge buildup, and even better engine performance. If you’re located in Chambersburg or the surrounding areas and wondering when you should change your oil, you’ll want to read the rest of this blog! What is Synthetic Oil?
Synthetic oil is an artificial lubricant that was designed to reduce friction and wear of internal combustion engines, as well as replace traditional motor oil. Developed from chemically modified petroleum instead of crude oil, synthetic oil provides better performance by reducing friction and wear of your engine, far better than a traditional motor oil can. Synthetic oil tends to degrade at a slower rate than traditional motor oil, making it an attractive choice to auto manufacturers attempting to keep their vehicle maintenance costs low. One of the best benefits of synthetic oil that often goes overlooked is it’s reduced impact on the environment. With synthetic oil usage on the rise, the world’s reliance on crude oil has decreased, thus reducing the environmental impact that oil has. If you want to reduce your vehicle maintenance costs, wear and tear, and environmental impact, using synthetic oil in your car is the way to go! Why Should I Use Synthetic Oil?
The use of synthetic oil isn’t just about reducing your environmental impact or stopping the use of crude oil throughout the world, its best trick is increasing the performance of your engine! Synthetic oil is great to use in your engine, as it can withstand a wider range of temperatures, is more stable, and causes less engine sludge. Using synthetic oil also means your internal engine parts will stay better lubricated, meaning less wear and tear on your engine and better performance too. With a longer lifecycle, synthetic oil allows you to stretch the time between changes, as they last anywhere from 7,500 to 15,000 miles. This longer lifecycle means you can save money and not worry about your engine’s performance degrading or being at risk. If you own a newer car with a turbocharged or hybrid engine, using synthetic oil is a must as these engines have higher compression ratios which cause extreme wear and tear. How Often Should I Change My Oil?
Each vehicle and engine has different requirements for oil change intervals, but its been a general rule of thumb to change your oil every three months or 3,000 miles. These days, however, oil change intervals seem to be growing, with most manufacturers making the switch to synthetic or fully synthetic oil. Since synthetic oil takes far longer to degrade and can withstand higher temperatures, you should be able to stretch out the time you take between oil changes. With most synthetic oil manufacturers claiming to get tens of thousands of miles between each oil change, it’s easy to get confused about when you should be swapping out your oil. The best way to know when to get an oil change is to read your car’s owner’s manual, as it will list all the various service intervals needed to maintain your car properly. If you’re unsure of when to change your oil, simply call up the parts and service experts here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, we’ll be happy to provide you with that information.Where Can I Get Synthetic Oil?
You can purchase synthetic oil from your local auto supply store, or you could stop in here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC as we stock the widest variety of synthetic oils around. First Look
Built on GM’s advanced Ultium EV Platform, the fully-electric Silverado EV has been developed from the ground up, offering next-level capability and performance along with cutting-edge technology.
“Chevrolet has constantly revolutionized the Silverado franchise to make it the powerhouse it is today,” said Steve Hill, vice president of Chevrolet. “The Ultium Platform is a critical enabler of next-level pickup truck performance for both fleet and retail customers, whether they are currently driving a Silverado or are considering a pickup for the first time.”
When it debuts, the Silverado EV will be available in two unique configurations, including a fleet-friendly WT (Work Truck) model and the exciting RST First Edition. Both models will offer plenty of standard and available safety features.
The RST First Edition will include the following:
- Four-wheel steering
- Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension
- Multi-Flex Midgate
- Available Mult-Flex Tailgate with power release
- 17-inch-diagonal LCD infotainment screen.
- 11-inch-diagonal Driver Instrument Display
- Multi-color Driver head-up display
- Super-Cruise with Trailering
The WT model will first be launched exclusively for fleet customers, helping usher in a new era of sustainable transportation. Featuring an impressive 510-horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, the WT is capable of towing up to 8,000 pounds and 1,200 pounds of payload. Following the launch of the WT, Chevrolet plans to introduce an even stronger fleet model that will be capable of towing up to 20,000 pounds when equipped with the max tow package.
“GM Fleet has long provided customers with great products and services, an exceptional customer experience and innovative solutions to meet their unique business needs,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “We’re excited to launch the Silverado EV, providing customers with a true work-capable truck to help them begin the transition to an electric fleet and assist them in achieving their own sustainability goals.”
The Future is Ultium-powered
The all-new Silverado EV will be built upon GM’s Ultium Platform, a platform that GM believes will help drive their new EV strategy which aims for a zero-emissions future.
“The Ultium Platform enabled our design and engineering teams to start from a clean slate and create a pickup with impressive performance and capability,” said Nichole Kraatz, Silverado EV chief engineer. “The result is a truly impressive testament to the creativity and innovation our teams can bring to market with speed and at scale.”
Featuring a completely new body architecture, the Silverado EV will make use of the 24-module Ultium battery pack so customers can enjoy up to 400-miles of range on a single charge. This exciting new design will still deliver the legendary performance and durability the Silverado lineup has long been known for — whether on- or off-road.
Sporting independent front and rear suspension, the Silverado EV utilizes its e4WD system to transfer engine power to the available 24-inch wheels on the RST. An Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension system will allow owners of the Silverado EV to raise or lower their truck up to 2 inches.
Standard on all trim levels of the Silverado EV will be a four-wheel-steering system. This unique steering system reduces the turning radius of the Silverado EV, allowing for greater maneuverability at low speed. At high speeds, four-wheel steering increases stability and handling, for a smoother ride when on the highway.
Trailering with the Silverado EV will be made easy thanks to the Tow/Haul mode that comes standard on RST and WT models. RST and WT models will also come standard with trailer hitch provisions, an integrated trailer brake controller and Hitch Guidance. Chevrolet has opted to include its Advanced Trailering System on the Silverado EV, however, it will only come standard on RST models.
Remarkable Performance
You will never have to worry about waiting around for a charge with the all-new Silverado EV. Both the RST and WT models of the Silverado EV will come standard with public DC fast charging capabilities. With public DC fast charging, you can add up to 100-miles of range to your charge in just 10 minutes.
Whether you’re on a weekend getaway or the worksite, the Silverado EV allows you to bring power with you, thanks to the available PowerBase charging system and accessory power bar. With PowerBase, Silverado EV customers will be able to enjoy up to 10 power outlets, which provide a total of 10.2kW of all-electric power.
Looking for a place to charge your Silverado EV? No sweat! Simply open the myChevrolet Mobile App and use the built-in Energy Assist feature. With Energy Assist you won’t have to scour maps to find the nearest charging station, simply enter your location and Energy Assist will show you the nearest charging station available. This is a must-have feature if you own any one of the Chevrolet EV’s.
Owners of the RST model will enjoy further charging capabilities thanks to Ultium Charge 360. With Ultium Charge 360, Silverado EV owners will have access to over 100,000 public charging points throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Those that opt for the WT will be able to make use of the Ultium Charge 360 Fleet Service. The Ultium Charge 360 Fleet Service is the perfect solution for an all-EV fleet, allowing drivers to take their vehicles home or return it to a central location.
Form. Function. Performance.
Designed for peak performance and functionality, the Silverado EV has been carefully designed down to the very last detail.
“We had no constraints when it came to designing the Silverado EV with dramatic style and flexible utility because we didn’t need to work around a traditional propulsion system,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Chevrolet Design. “The Ultium Platform allowed us to redefine what it means to offer expansive new storage and utility possibilities.”
An athletic, yet capable aesthetic has been achieved on the exterior of the Silverado EV, giving it a unique and futuristic look. Careful consideration went into designing the body of the Silverado EV, with an aerodynamic front-end for reduced drag and turbulence. With such a sleek design, the Silverado EV has an unparalleled range for a fully-electric pickup.
The Silverado EV will be exclusively offered in Crew Cab models, with a large second-row that pushes rearward to comfortably accommodate passengers over 6 feet tall. This design choice was made in favor of shortening the front overhang of the Silverado EV, giving it a more aggressive look as well as more space.
Silverado EV owners will also be able to customize the first-row storage available on the RST and WT models, so they can make the most of their interior space to best suit their individual needs.
Chevrolet will also have available what they call the eTrunk. The eTrunk is a weatherproof, lockable compartment on the front of the vehicle which was designed to hold a large suitcase or a variety of Chevrolet accessory options.
The Silverado EV RST will feature a modular console, which has a large capacity of over 7 gallons. That means you can fit a lunch cooler inside, making the day at the job site just that much more comfortable. Also exclusive to the RST model will be a fixed-glass roof which increases visibility and headroom.
Customers that opt for the Silverado EV RST will be able to maximize its 5-foot-11-inch bed space with the new Multi-Flex Midgate. While open, Multi-Flex Midgate allows for over 9 feet of storage space between the tailgate and cab.
The second row of seats in the Silverado EV will be a 40/60 split, with up to four configurations for easier hauling of gear and equipment. If more space is needed, customers can add the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which on the RST will allow for up to 10-feet-10inches of storage capacity. Customers can keep their gear protected with an available tonneau cover, which turns the bed into a fully lockable weatherproof storage space.
Tomorrow’s Technology
As one of Chevrolet’s most forward-thinking vehicles, the Silverado EV comes packed full of the latest and greatest technology. This includes an advanced software system that helps evolve the vehicle’s technology over time, creating a better user experience.
Unique lighting animations will be strewn throughout the Silverado EV, such as when you approach the RST and it lights up. On the interior, the RST’s 17-inch display screen will display a large 3D animation upon entering the vehicle. Once the customer is in the vehicle, the new hands-free start system will automatically start the vehicle while the customer buckles up.
As mentioned, the tech in the Silverado EV evolves over time, thanks to the all-new Ultifi system. Developed exclusively by GM, Utilifi allows frequent, rapid software updates. These software updates will enhance the performance of the Silverado EV and its features, increasing your quality of life with every drive.
Detroit Made
Committed to a better future, GM invested $2.2-billion into their redesigned Factory Zero in Detroit. This facility was repurposed and retooled to exclusively build and produced GM’s latest lineup of EVs.
By spring of 2023, the Silverado EV will first debut the WT model, a fleet-oriented work truck with a single-charge range of over 400 miles. Shortly after, in the fall of 2023, the fully-loaded RST First Edition will debut — also offering a 400-mile range — and will be starting off at an MSRP of $105,000 + DFC.
More models of the Silverado EV are slated to be released as production increases over time. Chevrolet has already announced they plan to field a Silverado EV lineup that will consist of multiple models, including the WT, RST and eventual Trail Boss. Chevrolet also announced a vast price range for the Silverado EV lineup, going from $50,000 MSRP all the way to over $100,000 MSRP.

Are you having a hard time seeing through the ice and the snow? Maybe it’s time to change out your wiper blades, so they can perform better for you this winter. There is nothing worse than trying to navigate a winter storm with streaky windshield wipers that miss large parts of your windshield. Most folks tend to overlook their windshield wipers when it comes to basic maintenance, only to scramble to replace them once winter hits and they can’t see through the blizzard.
Routinely checking your windshield wiper blades for wear and tear is a great way to catch problems before they arise. Another good way to ensure long life out of your windshield wiper blades is to lift them off the car before a winter storm comes, this will prevent the rubber from getting frozen to the windshield while the vehicle sits. Avoid using your wiper blades as a means of clearing ice from your windshield, as this can cause premature wear and tear on your wiper blades.
Keep your windshield clean and free of debris with a set of fresh wiper blades, installed by the professionals here at Jennings Chevrolet.
Top Off Your Fluids
Keeping up with your fluid levels is always important when you own a vehicle, doubly so for those that live in places with harsh winter months. A car that lacks the proper levels of fluids will struggle to perform at its peak, making daily driving a hassle and potentially even dangerous. Some fluids to keep an eye on are:
Coolant (Anti-Freeze): This fluid not only keeps your engine running at optimal temperatures, but it also helps keep fluids in the vehicle from freezing during the winter as well. Coolant goes in your coolant reservoir and runs throughout the engine to provide cooling, but it also can be added to your washer fluid to prevent those lines from freezing as well. Coolant is one of the most important fluids to monitor in your vehicle.
Engine Oil: It may seem obvious, but having the proper level of oil in your vehicle is extremely important in keeping your engine and car running. Engine oil lubricates the necessary parts of the engine so it can run smoothly, as metal on metal doesn’t bode well for the life of your engine. Engine oil behaves differently in extremely cold temperatures, therefore you may need to use a special blend during the winter months. If you need help determining which engine oil is right for your vehicle, speak with one of our service technicians here at Jennings Chevrolet today!
Washer Fluid: Although washer fluid may not be the first fluid on your mind when it comes to maintaining your vehicle, it is an important one to remember during the winter. With most cities that get snow using a salt or brine mixture to keep roads clear, your windshield gets dirty quite quickly during the winter, and that’s why it’s important to keep your washer fluid full. One good snowstorm can see you running your washer fluid tank dry, so always keep an extra bottle on hand during the winter months to avoid disaster.
Ensure you have a safe and easy winter, make an appointment today to get your winter car servicing performed here at Jennings Chevrolet.
Test Your Climate Control
Testing your climate control systems before the winter hits is an absolute must if you want to survive the winter comfortably. Before you start driving this winter, make sure to check the defroster and heating functions of your climate control system, as you most likely haven’t used them since last winter. Check your climate control in just a few seconds, simply run your defroster and heat at each fan speed and temperature available. This simple action will tell you if you have any climate control issues so you can have them fixed just in time for winter.
If your climate control system needs servicing, our service professionals here at Jennings Chevrolet can help! Located in Chambersburg, PA, Jennings Chevrolet’s Service Center is the best place to have your pre-winter vehicle inspection performed.
Be Prepared
It sounds cliche, but being prepared for the worst-case scenario is actually the best thing you can do. When it comes to being prepared for winter driving, the above tips are always great to follow but its also important to go a step further and have an emergency scenario bag packed and available in your vehicle.
Keep a bag full of spare clothes, including winter clothes in your vehicle. Inside of this bag should not only be clothing, but a blanket, a first aid kit, a flashlight, jumper cables, a cellphone charger, and some snacks. You can feel free to add more to this bag, but this is the bare minimum we recommend keeping in each one of your vehicles.
Imagine traveling down a back-country road in the winter, when suddenly you lose traction and skid off the road. Luckily nobody is hurt, but your car is disabled and needs to be towed out of the ditch on the side of the road. Waiting for that tow truck in below-freezing temperatures in a car with no heat is not ideal, however, it’s much easier when you have a winter emergency bag in your vehicle.

Chevrolet’s Redesigned Silverado
One of America’s best-selling trucks for many years, the Chevrolet Silverado has built quite a loyal following since they first came into production back in 1998. Sporting a new front fascia and a new grille that places the headlights lower, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado redesign gives it a wider stance, and a more stable look, truly putting an emphasis on the strength of the truck.
The heart of the Silverado will see some updates as well, with the 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine getting significant enhancements, such as a more rigid cylinder block casting, and a stiffer crankshaft. Taking design notes from the diesel sector of their lineup, Chevrolet designed the 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine with a fully forged bottom end for extreme longevity and reliability.
If a 2.7L turbo motor isn’t for you, the 2022 Silverado will also be available in a 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel option. If you opt for the diesel option, your towing capabilities skyrocket, with the Silverado capable of towing 13,300lbs in a two-wheel setup. In addition to these two fantastic engine options, you’re still able to choose from the classic 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management, and the monstrous 6.2L V-8; the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 on the market.
Chevrolet also announced that the redesigned Silverado will come in three new exterior colors; Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic. Named by loyal Chevrolet owners in a national vote, Glacier Blue Metallic will be an exclusive color that can be had at a slight extra cost when you place your order for a new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado.

The All-New Silverado ZR2
As if the redesigned 2022 Chevrolet Silverado wasn’t enough, Chevrolet decided to bless their loyal customers with a completely new version of the Silverado, the ZR2. The first-ever ZR2 is the flagship truck in Chevrolet’s new factory-lifted off-road lineup, which provides true, off-road capability to drivers right off the showroom floor.
Built to go off-road, the ZR2 comes standard with a factory lift kit, enhanced off-road technology, and a powerful 6.2L V-8 motor that puts out 420-horsepower and an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque. If you love Chevrolet and love off-roading, 2022 will be your year to shine, with the highly-anticipated release of the first-ever factory-lifted off-road Chevrolet ZR2 coming this spring.
Although off-roading was in mind when Chevrolet was designing the ZR2, comfort on the daily drive was also at the top of their list. Chevrolet perfected the blend of off-road capability and daily driving comfort with the ZR2, with their cutting-edge interior technology and displays, beefy suspension, and ultra-capable and reliable 6.2L V-8 engine. The ZR2 comes standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission, allowing for a max payload of 1,440lbs and a trailer rating of 8,900lbs, keeping the true spirit of the Silverados every day towing capabilities.
The ZR2 was designed for off-roading, and it’s clear when you see the removable end caps on the front bumper. These end caps were included so you could easily remove them in the event of a close encounter with large rocks and other off-road hazards. In addition to the removable end caps, Chevrolet went as far as to move the dual exhaust to a position before the rear bumper, removing the risk of damage to the exhaust while off-roading.
During its production, the ZR2 earned its off-road stripes when it competed in the brutal “Best in the Desert” racing series. Best in the Desert is a storied off-road racing organization that hosts some of the most grueling, yet highly respected off-road races in the United States. Chevrolet, along with many manufacturers use this racing series to test prototypes, and that’s exactly how the ZR2 was developed and perfected. Customers that purchase the ZR2 will be getting a tried and true off-road machine, as it was built in the fires of top-tier off-road competition racing.
Spotting a ZR2 in the wild will be easy, with its exclusive black hood insert, a grille with integrated lighting and a “flow-tie” emblem, ZR2 badges, and 18-inch wheels exclusive to the ZR2. The interior of the ZR2 will come wrapped in Jet Black/Graystone leather and dark trim, an exclusive look only available on the all-new ZR2.
Here is a breakdown of the wonderful features coming to the ZR2:
- Standard 6.2L V-8 engine, delivering 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission
- Silverado-first application of Multimatic 40mm DSSV spool-valve dampers, which feature:
- Three separate spool valves to control damping
- Three connected chambers for fluid flow
- Uniquely-tuned springs that, with the Multimatic dampers, increase maximum front and rear suspension travel, compared to the Silverado Trail Boss
- Front and rear e-lockers
- Specific off-road chassis and suspension calibrations, including Terrain Mode, which allows one-pedal rock crawling
- Specific 33-inch off-road MT tires
- Unique skid plate package
- New high-approach steel front bumper designed for off-road strength, durability, and clearance that enables an improved 31.8-degree approach angle compared to other Silverado off-road models
Full of fantastic features and off-road capabilities, the ZR2 is sure to make some waves in the truck industry, as well as the off-road world too. Order your 2022 Chevrolet ZR2 for Spring of 2022, here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC located in Chambersburg, PA.

Purchasing your very first vehicle can be exciting, however, that excitement can quickly turn to confusion if you’re not prepared ahead of time. Confusion and uncertainty when shopping for a new vehicle can lead to poor, uninformed decisions, that ultimately end up costing you money. Avoid that confusion and uncertainty by reading this list of top tips for first-time car buyers before you hit the lot!
Once you read through this fantastic list of tips, come on down to Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC to use your new knowledge to shop for your new vehicle.
First-Time Car Buying Tips
Figure Out Your Budget
As with most things in the world, setting a budget is one of the most important things to do first before you make any other decisions. Defining your budget makes it easier to narrow down what vehicles you can afford, preventing you from falling into the trap of stretching too far for a vehicle you can’t afford.
Before you settle on a budget for a new car, make sure to evaluate your monthly living expenses and determine from there what you can afford monthly for a vehicle. Remember to include estimates for car insurance, fuel, and vehicle maintenance in this budget, because owning a vehicle is a lot more than a monthly payment.
Once you’ve figured out what you can afford, the hard part is done, now it’s time to start the fun by searching for the right vehicle at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC.
List Your Needs
Now, this may seem like the first thing to do when you’re ready to buy a new car, but without a budget in mind, many “wants” become “needs”, skyrocketing the cost of the vehicle. Define your vehicle needs by taking into consideration your occupation, daily commute, and even things like the weather around where you live.
All of these factors not only determine what kind of vehicle you will need but also influence just how much maintenance the vehicle will need as well. Living in a snowy climate may mean you need a set of winter and summer tires, whereas living in a hot, dry climate means you’ll need to pay more attention to your fluids, hoses, and belts.
After you define your needs and budget, it’s time to find dealers that carry vehicles you may want. Make your choice easier by picking from the gigantic selection of new and pre-owned vehicles available here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, located in Chambersburg, PA.
Research Time
Now that you have a solid idea of what your needs are and a clear budget in mind, it’s time to start researching what vehicles are available to you. Hop online and check out sites like Cars.com, KBB.com, or Autotrader.com to get a listing of all the vehicles in your area, with filters for makes, models, and features. The best option is to visit the website of local dealerships, like Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, so you can see the most up-to-date inventory information.
During your research, be sure to check out consumer reviews and reports about the vehicle you have in mind. While everyone’s experiences and reviews are different, it is a great idea to at least see if there are any common experiences or trends shared amongst owners of the vehicle you like. Finding a vehicle and having a wealth of information about that vehicle has never been easier, so take advantage of it when searching for your next vehicle.
Is a new vehicle what you’re looking for? Take a look at our vast inventory of new and pre-owned vehicles available online and in-store here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, located in

Time for a Test Drive
After you decide on the perfect vehicle for you, get out there and take one for a test drive! Test driving a vehicle is one of the most important steps in a purchase, as it really gives you a taste of what owning that particular vehicle is like. While you’re test driving, make sure to get comfortable as if it was your vehicle, and drive a route similar to your daily commute for the best comparison.
When you’re making a big purchase like this, it’s important to make sure the vehicle “fits” all aspects of your lifestyle. Certain dealerships may even allow you to drive the vehicle home for a short period of time, so you can see how it fits in your garage or parking space. Make choosing the perfect vehicle easier, test drive as many vehicles as you can before you decide on one.
If you’re looking for a new Chevrolet, Buick, or GMC vehicle, shop here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC and ask your sales professional about an extended test drive. Finding the perfect new vehicle is simple when you’re choosing from our huge inventory here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC.
Figure Out Financing
Financing a vehicle tends to be when first-time car buyers get confused, as it can be a detail-heavy process. As a first-time car buyer, it’s important to not get flustered, just ask questions when you’re confused and remember the finance professional is there to help you. Keep in mind that you’re simply agreeing upon how much money you’re borrowing, and how quickly you’ll be paying it back, including interest. If you keep this in mind, financing is a lot less confusing as a first-time car buyer.
If you have your eyes set on a new Chevrolet, Buick, or GMC vehicle here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, our in-house financing professionals will help you every step of the way. At Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC we work with a variety of auto lenders to make sure you get the best financing possible for your new vehicle. After all of your online research and in-person test drives, you should feel comfortable signing on the dotted line, knowing that not only are you getting the best deal but also the perfect vehicle for you. Unlike most purchases, you can’t return a vehicle, so ensuring that you love the vehicle before you sign is highly recommended.

Making its glorious return to the drag strip in 2022, the COPO Camaro is back and ready to live life a ¼ mile at a time with its Big Block V-8. With no restrictions on production, the 2022 COPO Camaro will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to the public, a first in the history of the COPO Camaro. Available for pre-order soon here at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC, stop in to talk with your salesperson today.
A Storied Past
The COPO Camaro has a long, storied past, with its origins beginning in some cigarette-smoke-filled new car manager’s office in the early ‘60s. You see, back in the ‘60s, Chevrolet offered the Central Office Production Order program, Chevrolet’s own bespoke program for its fleet customers, like police departments and ambulances. However, a couple of adrenaline-craving dealers realized they could order purpose-built drag racing vehicles through the COPO program, and thus, the COPO Camaro was born.
As fossil fuels are on their way out as the dominant fuel source, manufacturers are all scrambling to unveil their own electric vehicles. Chevrolet, while working on going green, decided to have a bit of fun, one last hurrah, and built the environmentally aggressive 2022 COPO Camaro, a specialty-built race car with a Big Block V8 that pays homage to the roots of the original COPO vehicles.
While Chevrolet has been making COPO versions of their vehicles since the ‘60s, this is the first time they will be un-restricting ordering, allowing customers to order these vehicles on a first-come, first-serve type basis. Breaking away from the typical limited-run production of 69 vehicles, Chevrolet is sure to please their customers as well as gain new ones with this move.
Beneath the Hood
Powering the COPO Camaro is a 9.4-liter Big Block V8, a cast-iron block, complete with aluminum heads, forged steel connecting rods and crankshaft, as well as forged aluminum pistons. An engine reminiscent of the original COPO era, Chevy says the new V8 “channels the spirit of the original 1969 COPO Camaro”.
The high displacement V8 won’t be the only engine option available, with a supercharged 5.7-liter V8 and a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 also available. Rated by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the 5.7-liter V8 will have 580 horsepower, while its naturally aspirated counterpart was rated at 470 horsepower. No matter which engine option you choose, the 2022 COPO Camaro will be plenty fast.
With three stellar engine options, Chevrolet decided to keep it relatively simple when it came to the transmission on the COPO Camaro. An homage to its roots, the 2022 COPO will come equipped with an ATI Racing Products TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, the only option for all three engines. The ATI three-speed will be sending all of the COPO Camaros raw power to the rear wheels, a traditional drag-racing setup.
Designed exclusively for the track, the COPO Camaro is unfortunately not street legal, however, it does qualify for NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing eliminators. Ready to get your hands on the 2022 COPO Camaro? Come to Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC to speak with a salesperson about pre-ordering today.
Order Your COPO Camaro
Since Chevrolet is not restricting the COPO Camaro to 69 models this year, preorders are open to the general public online or your local Chevrolet dealer, Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC. All models come equipped with a carbon fiber hood and wheelie bar, with an option for a trunk-mounted weight box and parachute. Being ordered on a first-come, first-serve basis, customers can expect to pay $105,500 for the 9.4-liter V8, $117,500 for the 7.0-liter V8, and $130,000 for the 5.7-liter supercharged V8 (excluding tax, title, license, and dealer fees).
Order your COPO Camaro today while orders are still open and available, hurry in to (Insert Dealer) today. With your COPO Camaro order, you will also be given the option to receive a private tour of the COPO Build Facility in Oxford, Michigan, an exclusive offer for COPO Camaro owners. In the 2020s technological innovations are more common than ever, with many great advances in technology going unnoticed due to the sheer speed at which new tech is released and old tech becomes obsolete. However one tech innovation that sticks out amongst the sea of innovations is GMCs Super Cruise technology. Being the world’s first truly hands-free driving experience, GMCs Super Cruise technology is one of those rare, game-changing technologies that is sure to go down in history. Cruise into the future with GMCs Super Cruise, available at Chambersburg’s favorite GMC dealer, Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC.
What is SuperCruise?
Launched for the first time in 2016, Super Cruise was tested on the Cadillac CTS and proved to be a viable system and underwent further development in the subsequent years. Fast forward to 2021 and Super Cruise technology is beginning to be deployed in more vehicles and in more applications, with the 2022 GMC Sierra being the first time we will see Super Cruise capable of hands-free trailering as well.
With Super Cruise you are able to drive hands-free, leaving control of speed and steering up to the computer so long as you’re alert and ready to intervene in the event of an emergency. GMC developed a unique driver alertness system that detects if a driver is paying attention to the road and then allows Super Cruise to be activated, ensuring that no distracted or sleeping drivers are behind the wheel. Super Cruise also has an automatic lane switching feature, engaged when the system recognizes a slower driver in front and an available passing lane, the system will safely switch lanes with no driver input.
Ever Evolving
New for 2022 is Super Cruise Trailering, an update to the Super Cruise system which will allow
GMC Sierra owners to attach a trailer and still be able to drive hands-free. Unfortunately hands-free trailering means no use of the hands-free lane switching feature, but that seems to be for good reason.
Able to be engaged on a limited number of roads, SuperCruise is still being rolled out, with only 200,000 miles of Super Cruise enabled road already mapped between the US and Canada. Although GMC hopes that SuperCruise software will be able to be used on any road one day in the future, it currently is locked to mainly highways with dividers in order to safely test the system. As Super Cruise continues to be refined, GMC aims to have their entire lineup Super Cruise capable.
Is Super Cruise, Super-Worth It?
Providing a peek into a Jetsons-esque future, GMCs Super Cruise is a groundbreaking technology that is sure to enhance the driving experience. Beginning in 2016 as a hands-free driving assist, Super Cruise has evolved and offers hands-free trailering and automatic lane change features along with it’s advanced hands-free driving capabilities. A perfect marriage of safety, sophistication and technology, Super Cruise is a must-have feature for every driver. Come experience the magic of Super Cruise at Jennings Chevrolet Buick GMC located in Chambersburg, PA, and drive home hands-free in your new GMC.
